Joining a number of other organizations to adopt a no smoking policy, the Bowie Baysox announced Tuesday that smoking will no longer be allowed inside Prince George's stadium. The ban takes effect immediately "to create a more healthy and pleasant environment at the ballpark," according to a release. Previously, smoking was permitted in a section at the end of the third base concourse.

There will reportedly be specified areas outside the front gates where smoking is permitted, but fans will have to leave the stadium and use their ticket stubs to re-enter. Effective in May 2011, the City Council adopted a no smoking policy to ban smoking on all city of Bowie property including city-owned parks and facilities. Violators can be subject to a $50 fine, according to the city's website, but smoking is allowed inside a vehicle parked in a parking lot on city property if the windows are closed.
